New moderator for The Complete Booker

Hello to regular readers and contributors to The Complete Booker. I'm stepping into Laura's shoes as the moderator for this blog.

She's going to be a hard act to follow and I know those of you who've been part of this community since its origins in 2007, will be sorry to see her step down. But we all have those moments in our lives when we have to make a change and give up on something we've enjoyed. And it seems for Laura, that's now though you'll still be able to follow her reading adventures on her LaurasMusings blog.

Since this is my first post as the moderator, it might be a good idea to tell you a little about myself. Some of you may know me from my BookerTalk blog site. But for the benefit of those who don't ... in 'real' life I'm Karen. I'm a native of Wales which for those of you who share my poor grasp of geography, is part of the UK.

I'm one of the newest members of the Complete Booker, having joined in 2012 when I decided one of my New Year's resolutions was to read all the Booker prize winners. I thought at the time it was a unique idea (how naive can one be??) but fortunately quickly discovered there were many other like-minded people who were already much further along that road. I still have a long way to go to catch up with most of you who follow this blog.

I'm hoping you'll all continue to share your thoughts on the prize winners, and the long listed and short listed titles to further enrich the library. I'd also like your thoughts on other features beyond the reviews that you'd like to see. All ideas will be welcome so please keep in touch.

That's all for now...

Karen

  4. Karen, thank you for taking on the moderator role! This was a labor of love for me, and I'm happy to see it continue. And I hope to contribute reviews from time to time as well.

  5. Hooray for you, Karen. This is community at its best, where one person can put down their work and another will carry it forward, with the good wishes of all. (I thought I'd invented the idea of reading all the Bookers, too, back in the day. It's a worthy task. Was there one book that started you off? The one that hooked me was The God of Small Things.)

    1. I think it was the discussion about The Sense of an Ending that started me down the Booker path. There was so much sniffy commentary in certain quarters how it wasn't really a book and certainly not anywhere near a book deserving a prize.....So I thought I'd read them all to see what the fuss was about. I've yet to read The God of Small Things.

    1. I can't believe the longlist announcement is on us already. It feels like they only just announced the 2012 list...

  7. I also only joined this project recently

...so thank you to Laura for setting it up in the first place and thank you to Karen for keeping it going - so that slow pokes like me can still join in at our leisure :-)
