Behold, the 2009 Shortlist!

The following six titles have made the 2009 Booker Prize shortlist:
  • The Children's Book, by A. S. Byatt
  • Summertime, by J. M. Coetzee
  • The Quickening Maze, by Adam Foulds
  • Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel
  • The Glass Room, by Simon Mawer
  • The Little Stranger, by Sarah Waters
Jackie at Farm Lane Books recently offered her impressions of the entire 2009 longlist (nice bit of reading there, Jackie!). I'm hoping she'll stop by here and post her reviews. Meanwhile, has anyone else read a short- or long-listed book? Let us know what you think!

    Of the shortlist, I've read only Waters' The Little Stranger. It's a good read but I thought it her weakest book of all the wonderful books she's written and was surprised to see it shortlisted.

    On the longlist - I'm more than half way through Brooklyn by Colm Toibin. It's good, but not necessarily Booker good. The one I'm really disappointed about not making the list is Samantha Harvey's The Wilderness, which I thought was stunning. I'm anxious to read The Glass Room, which I've heard great things about.

    The Glass Room is very good. I am hoping that it wins now.

    This is interesting. I have not read any on the shortlist. Hope to do so soon, though I read mostly African writers and hence JMC would be the likely candidate for me to read.
