Tackling the list: the 2008 Man Booker Challenge

Dewey over at the hidden side of a leaf has come up with a great way for all of you to start tackling the Booker Prize list. In The Man Booker Challenge, participants will read 6 books between January and December of 2008. They can be prize winners, or just books that made the short or long list in any year. Follow the link to post your challenge list.

Selfishly, I hope everyone decides to read Booker Prize winners. And when you do, don't forget to post your reviews on this blog!

  1. I would love to do something like this but I live in Japan, on an island where English books are rather hard to come by. I'd have to buy them all offline, paying to have each shipped internationally.. which could get quite a bit pricey after about ten books or so. D'you know whether any of these are available electronically?

  2. I can imagine this would be difficult. I know someone who solved the English-language reading problem by joining Bookmooch.com, a book swapping site where international swaps are common. I'm not sure exactly how this site works (I use a US-only book swapping site myself), but because you are swapping books the only cost is postage. I realize that can get pricey, but at least you're not paying for the book!

There also a site called DailyLit which sends books, one section at a time, via email. Most of their literature is older, in the public domain. Some of the older Booker winners may be available there.

  3. Thanks for telling me about bookmooch. I have about 400-500 read books that I was probably gonna throw away. That's a nice way of giving away read books.
